(travel) Not enough luggage?
I’ve been stopped, searched and grilled at length twice now on international travel for “not having enough luggage.” I’m talking like a two hour detention. Example, I travel in Europe for 3-4 weeks with one bag like this, link below. Is there any way around this inconvenience? Any tips about what to say when first stopped? I tried a slightly bigger shoulder bag but it did not help. Thanks! I need suggestions.

Looking at it from their point of view.
You might present like a bomber to them, with just one bag.

The link for your bag didn’t work, but a few things could be the reasons–they are suspicious of someone with a small bag; you could be on a list somewhere; your name could be similar to someone else’s.
Why not get a large backpack or rolling duffle? For some reason, those look more like “traveler” bags than a small suitcase.

The airports have gone into a Paranoia, and think that americans overpack everything. So to them you look like a bomber who doesn’t want to live for too much longer. It really sucks, but it’s their paranoia. Just tell them you’re not a pack rat or that you don’t plan on hi-jacking the plane with your tiny purse or small carry-on. Don’t be as literal as I am, they might just think you are planning this. Just tell them the truth. You’re going on a trip where there is a laundry matt near by, so you can wear the outfits you’ve packed more then once. Try these, and I hope it works out for you. If it doesn’t, write a letter telling them that your not harmful or just complaining at them. Good luck!
